DENTURES & PARTIALS
When you smile your teeth helps your personality shine. Missing any number of teeth is unpleasant, both physically and psychologically not to mention chewing and talking can be cumbersome as well. At our office we like to help each of our patients feel good about their smile and with careful fittings of dentures or partial dentures you can have a beautiful smile to enjoy.
Our dentures are fabricated right here in Arizona by our master technicians and are fabricated to exact fit and function based on Dr. Mazaheri's specification. Generally it takes several appointments in order to complete the fabrication of the complete denture. At our office we like to have the patient closely involved with the process where he or she can evaluate the esthetic result such as the shade and shape before the denture is fully processed.
Following the delivery of your denture, we would want to see you about once a week for a few weeks until the denture is fully adjusted, and relieved of sore areas.
Dentures can also be used along with dental implants where they permanently attach to dental implants and stay in the mouth full time. This type of denture is called implant supported denture or All on four denture.
As indicated above it takes several appointments to fabricate a complete denture. When teeth need to be removed in the entire mouth and the patient does not want to be without teeth following the extractions, Dr. Mazaheri can fabricate an immediate denture which is placed right after the teeth are removed. This denture is made ahead of time prior to removal of teeth and usually needs to be replaced with the final denture after the healing of the gums and bone in 4-6 months.
The more healthy natural teeth that remain in the mouth the better the fit and secure attachment of the partial denture will be. We sometimes use precision attachments to help secure the partial dentures with existing crowns.
Both of the above options are removable and must be treated with care. They should be cleaned daily and adjusted only by your dentist.
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is implanted in the jaw. A permanent crown is then attached to that post for a stable, secure tooth (or set of teeth) that feels, acts and looks just like real teeth. Learn more about dental implants.
At our dental office we offer same day denture repair service . If you have a denture or partial denture that is in need of repair please contact us at 480-633-1481 to schedule appointment for same day denture repair.
If you wear full dentures on both your upper and lower jaws, you still need to take care of your mouth. That means your tongue, gums and roof of your mouth need to be cleaned and brushed. By keeping oral tissues clean bad breath is eliminated, fights fungus growth on the denture, and promotes blood flow to keep tissues healthy.
How to clean dentures:
Rinse your dentures before brushing to remove any loose food or debris.
Use a soft bristle brush specially made for dentures and a non-abrasive cleanser to gently brush all the surfaces of the dentures so they don't get scratched.
When you’re not wearing your dentures (dentures need to be removed before sleep so tissues can rest), put them in a safe place covered in water or denture cleaner to keep them from warping.
Denture wearers may use adhesives. Adhesives come in many forms: creams, powders, pads/wafers, strips or liquids. If you use one of these products, read the instructions, and use them exactly as directed.
Other Removable Appliances
Retainers: Retainers are used after a patient has completed orthodontic treatment in order to prevent relapse of tooth alignment. If retainers are not worn relapse will occur and the orthodontic process must be started over. If you need a new retainer fabricated please contact us to discuss your options. There are several different types of retainers that can suite your individual needs.
Mouth guards: Are highly encouraged for any athlete, particularly those in contact sports such as football, and martial arts. Mouth guards help protect the teeth, gums, and lips from trauma from contact. At our office we custom make mouth guards to patients individual needs. Learn the benefits of mouth guards.
Space Maintainers: When a tooth is lost prematurely during childhood a space maintainer is used to prevent the shifting of permanent dentition adjacent to the missing space. Dr. Mazaheri routinely uses space maintainers on pediatric patients to preserve the space lost following removal of a severely decayed primary tooth. Sometimes space maintainers are also fixed and stay in place depending on the situation.
Night guards: Bruxism is the grinding of teeth which most of the time happens unconsciously during sleep. When teeth are grinded they enamel is worn down and can cause jaw problems. . A night guard appliance is custom made and is worn during sleep to protect your teeth if you grind. For more information please see our TMJ section of our web site.

Dentures are made out of a resin base that houses artificial teeth. The denture fabricated is able to be processed to match your gum tissue, and the teeth are usually made of porcelain or plastic. Dentures are custom made to match the underlying structure of each individual patient's mouth so they help maintain the look and structural support of the person’s lips and facial structures.

A partial denture is a denture that covers only portion of your mouth to replace only the few or more missing teeth. It’s held in your mouth with attachments that wrap onto remaining natural teeth, or crowns. Partials are routinely used when one or more of your natural, healthy teeth are still remaining in the mouth.
The more healthy natural teeth that remain in the mouth the better the fit and secure attachment of the partial denture will be. We sometimes use precision attachments to help secure the partial dentures with existing crowns.
